Life Legacy
Hazel E. Houfek was born October 1, 1907 to Anton & Hildur (Berggren) Person near Weston. She attended a rural grade school near Weston and then graduated from Malmo High School.
She married Joseph Houfek, October 17, 1928 in Malmo. The couple lived on the family farm near Malmo, tilling the soil and milking cows. After Joe passed away March 15, 1960, Hazel relocated to Wahoo and worked as a cook and baker at Fairview Café. She later worked at the Saunders County Care Center until she retired in her late 70’s. When her health began to decline she moved to Haven House in Wahoo and later to the Saunders County Care Center where she passed away.
She was a member of Edensburg Lutheran Church in Malmo where she served on various committees with the “Ladies Aid”.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Alice, grandchildren Alyson Chadwick and Clark Peterson and her brother Clarence Person. She is survived by her children Ralph Houfek and Dorothy Peterson both of Wahoo; son-in-law Royal Chadwick of Lincoln; grandchildren Leigh and Keith Houfek of Lincoln, Ken Houfek of Wahoo, Debra (Mark) Kemsley of Palatine, IL, Delayne (fiance Kevin Hergott) and Jon Peterson of Wahoo, Julie (Gordon) Case of Olathe, KS and Jeffre (Crissy) Chadwick of Lincoln; great grandchildren Kevin Houfek, Natalie Peterson, Jason Peterson, Brett Kemsley, Ryan Kemsley, Tyler Case, Zachary Case, Hudson Chadwick, and Elise Chadwick; and sister Wave Hanson of Lincoln.
Casket bearers will be Leigh Houfek, Keith Houfek, Ken Houfek, Jon Peterson, Jason Peterson and Jeff Chadwick.
